My WHY Scripture
I was reading 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” This is a Bible scripture that is pretty familiar and often spoken about from the pulpit. Which, then led me to the scripture
James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Yet another scripture that is pretty familiar within the Christian church. But, for some reason when I read it this time it really stood out to me that this was my calling- My WHY scripture. This very scripture explains why I do what I do as a faith-based counselor, I help people heal. I also read it a little differently this time and as I thought about it- it became clear that the scripture is not only talking about our own sins/faults, but also the sins that have been committed against us. The abuse, neglect, and brokenness that others have caused is able to be healed through a loving, trusting, and vulnerable relationship with God’s people.

Every fast has been a different experience for me, but God has never failed to honor the sacrifice. He has blessed me every time exactly with what I needed when I needed it.
