Spiritual Battle Plan for Healing
Have you ever thought you were completely healed emotionally; then something happens and reveals more healing is needed? Have you ever forgiven someone and moved on with your life only to have something happen that reveals you haven’t completely forgiven? I know this to be true for those I work with and recently I discovered this is true for me as well. I spent a two-week period feeling as if I were under direct spiritual attack. It felt like a character assassination occurring within the battlefield of my mind. I had to use every tool in my spiritual and intellectual tool box in order to fight back. Below I share some lessons I learned from this experience.
“The battlefield is in our mind and we must use the weapons God has given us to win the battle.”
Lessons and Growth:
-
What is done in the dark needs to be exposed to the light for healing to take place.
-
This means we must share our brokenness, sins we’ve committed, and sins committed against us with safe, solid, mature people.
-
If we do not confess we will not be able to have peace and healing. However, our confession is not for everyone. Use discernment and confide in one or two people you trust with your secrets.
-
The enemy of our faith uses our secrets to wreak havoc on our peace. Once you confess (talk about it), you take the power away from the enemy.
-
James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
-
The battlefield is in our mind and we must use the weapons God has given us to win the battle. Some of those weapons include prayer, fasting, worship, devotional time, reading the Bible, fellowship with other believers, serving in the church and community, as well as other areas where you can use the gifts God has given you to edify the body of Christ. Another underrated weapon we have is each other. Safe, solid, healthy relationships are powerful and can help us weather the toughest of storms. We are a valuable resource for one another.
“If we do not fight the lies of Satan which cause shame, condemnation, and emotional destruction, with the truth we will have no peace, no healing, and no freedom. ”
Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
2 Cor. 10:3-5 "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
Eph. 6:11-17 "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
“ There is no magic wand to make our pain go away, but, with the peace that only comes from God we are able to stand and walk though it. ”
-
If we do not fight the lies of Satan which cause shame, condemnation, and emotional destruction, with the truth we will have no peace, no healing, and no freedom.
-
Gal. 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
-
God has a way of using even our most difficult of times for His glory and our good. I have found this occurs in His timing, never early or late. A mentor instructed me to ask God, in prayer, to use my pain and my lack of comfort for His glory. Initially, I rolled my eyes and agreed. But once I applied this to my prayer life I received such peace in my pain. I’ve also learned that God doesn’t always take away the struggle or the pain, but He gives me peace and walks through it with me.
Rom. 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Gen. 50:20 “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”
My biggest take away is Gods faithfulness. There is no magic wand to make our pain go away, but, with the peace that only comes from God we are able to stand and walk though it. Without the pain and lack of comfort there is no growth. In addition, if we do not confess, talk about it and work through it, there is no healing. I’m confident that God’s formula for healing is second to none. He created us, and He knows exactly what we need in order to heal. Because He created us in His image (relational), we need each other in this healing process. If you are ready for the next level of healing I encourage you to use the resources (each other) He has given and embrace His will and His plan for your life. In addition, if you have applied all the tools you have in your tool box and yet you still find no relief you may need to reach out to a professional counselor or pastoral counselor. Be encouraged by the fact that you can do hard things and know Healing is possible.

Every fast has been a different experience for me, but God has never failed to honor the sacrifice. He has blessed me every time exactly with what I needed when I needed it.
